I’ve had an odd obsession with the downfall of Sears and Kmart for quite some time. It’s a story that everyone thinks they know, but they really don’t. The winding down of Sears is not a story of Amazon, but it is the story of one man who brought a faded retailer to bankruptcy.
It’s a story that the media really isn’t taking on. A few stories appear here and there, but for the most part, it’s not a story that people know. So, I am sharing two stories about Sears and Kmart as a way to learn about how greed and incompetence is part of the reason two famous brands have been destroyed. What is happening to Sears is what is going on in the larger economy.
My hope is that some in the media will pay attention to this story.The first is from 2017 about Kmart and the second is from earlier this year on Sears.
